Judge him
Mark became overcome with emotion as he described the events. He began to cry. He confessed that he had a severe case of stage fright, and that he believed that he would be judged harshly by the audience because he is a homeless person.
He felt judged, and heard whispers such as “why would Lucy choose a homeless person to be the officiant?”
He was broken-hearted. He wanted to be the best for his family.
You can forget about everyone else
Mark was going through a mental crisis, and Lucy was able to see the vulnerability of her friend. She had anticipated that others and her parents might not understand the unusual decision. Lucy was determined to invite Mark to her wedding.
She offered him her sincere support and pleaded with Mark to ignore the words of others. Lucy saw that their relationship transcended all societal judgements.
