He made some unkind remarks about female comedians
Jerry Lewis was undoubtedly one of Hollywood’s most famous comedians, even if his personal life wasn’t the best. Jerry Lewis’s success on stage and screen is proof of that. His humor was responsible for Jerry’s career lasting many years. He will always be one the comedy’s brightest stars, sharing his place with many incredible men and women.
Lewis, if he were still alive today, probably would not appreciate being associated with these legends. He once said “I don’t like any woman comedians.” In 1998, he said he has “troubles” with female comedians because he views them as “a producing machine that brings babies into the world.”
Jerry’s use of anti-LGBTQ words and phrases has earned him some criticism
Jerry’s anger was not limited to female comedians. In addition, he did himself no favors by repeatedly using certain slurs. In 2007, during his annual telethon to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association, he made jokes and used a derogatory word.
He stopped speaking after the news was spread, but the damage was already done. GLAAD condemned Jerry’s actions and asked him to apologize to the community. Lewis apologized for his comment, saying that he had “no prejudices about this.” It was not until a year after that Lewis used the same word, indicating he had not learned his lesson.
