Pac-Man crater
NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter photographed this crater with an unusual shape in 2018. Pac-Man, the 1980s arcade video game, was immediately recalled by everyone. It is likely a crater from an impact, and the crescent-shaped sand dunes inside are Barchan sand dunes.
Barchan sand dune formations are not uncommon on Mars, but this particular crater is unique. Experts estimate that the sand would have to blow out of the crater over a period of tens or thousands of years.
