It’s a Cold Day
It was a very cold day. A cold wind blew and the sun was hidden behind a cloudy, overcast sky. Sarah was walking to work and saw a child sitting on a sidewalk.
She wondered why the child was alone. As she got closer she noticed something…
Walking Past the Child
Sarah had to walk past the child in order to reach her building. As she grew closer to the child, she became more aware of its condition. The girl was dressed in shorts that were too long for the weather and a single sweater. In front of her, there was a sign saying “The Girl”.
A Sign
The sign was spelled as if it were written by a child. The sign read “Please, I want to eat something,” in thin, shaky letters. Sarah approached the girl without hesitation.
Sarah said, “Hello. My name is Sarah.” Sarah smiled and asked, “What’s your name?” The girl looked down and replied “Emily”.
