She became more concerned about the situation
Larry insisted that his relationship with his family was strained, but he visited them regularly. This contradicted his claims and led her to think that he may have been exaggerating to make himself happy.
Barbara was initially apathetic about the relationship, but as it progressed, and their relationship became more serious she felt the need to know what was happening.
After Larry suggested
Barbara felt it was important to meet Larry’s parents after he proposed to her. They had become quite close, and Larry had even asked her father for permission to marry Barbara.
She wondered if they liked her or if she was even likeable. She imagined scenarios in which she would become close to his parents, and perhaps even help them mend their strained relationship. She hoped that her presence would bring peace and understanding to their relationship. But first, she had to meet his parents.
