Dances with Wolves (South Dakota)
Kevin Costner is the producer, director, and star of this grand Western drama. The plot was inspired by the 1988 Michael Blake novel with the same title. The story is about Union Army Lieutenant John J. Dunbar who travels across the American frontier to find a military outpost.
The movie was well received by both the public and critics. Costner’s directing abilities, the soundtrack, the storyline and the acting were all highly praised. It was included in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress. Costner appears in the film with Graham Greene and Mary McDonnell.
South Dakota is where most of the filming took place. The bison hunting scene was filmed at the Triple U Buffalo Ranch, west of Fort Pierre. Standing Butte Ranch has been renamed.
The Green Mile – Tennessee
In 1999, Frank Darabont directed the fantasy drama. The movie was inspired by a Stephen King novel of the same title. Tom Hanks is a well-known Hollywood actor who plays the role as a jailguard during the Great Depression.
Michael Clarke Duncan, an unorthodox prisoner, is placed on death row and encounters paranormal phenomenon. In addition to Hanks, Duncan, and Bonnie Hunt, the movie also features James Cromwell and Doug Hutchison. The Green Mile is a box-office success that received four Academy Award nods.
The original filming location was Louisiana, but director Frank Darabont chose to shoot the movie in Tennessee, California and North Carolina. The Cold Mountain Penitentiary was replaced by the Tennessee Penitentiary.
