Ace in the Hole New Mexico
The audience was eagerly anticipating the 1951 crime drama. Ace in the Hole did not, as reported, have a very successful run at the box office. Kirk Douglas portrayed the central character, Chuck Tatum. Billy Wilder directed the film.
Chuck, a cynical and discredited reporter, will do anything to get back his job at a renowned newspaper. Ace in the Hole stars Kirk along with Porter Hall and Robert Arthur. The film was added to the National Film Registry. Critics praise the film for its cultural, artistic, and historical value.
Wilde shot the majority of the film in a huge set about 20 miles west of Gallup. The portions filmed in Albuquerque were filmed with a hidden camera. Wilder filmed the cave-in sequences inside the studio.
