Insomnia – Alaska
Insomnia, a 2002 film, has a dedicated fan base. Christopher Nolan directed the psychological thriller starring Robin Williams, Hilary Swank and Al Pacino. Martin Donovan is in the film, as are Maura Terney, Paul Dooley and Nicky Katt.
Insomnia is the story of two Los Angeles Police officers who travel to Nightmute in Alaska to investigate a murder. Alaska was chosen for many reasons. Character in the story is surprised to find himself exhausted.
Nightmute is also so far north, that the sun doesn’t set for several days in a row. Will Domer gets insomnia as a result. Hyder and Valdez are Alaskans.
Captain Fantastic – Washington
Matt Ross wrote and directed the 2016 drama. Captain Fantastic is a 2016 drama written and directed by Matt Ross. The story is about a family that has lived in seclusion for 10 years. Due to their circumstances, they must reintegrate themselves into society.
Captain Fantastic debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in 2016. It was voted as one of 2016’s top independent films. Mortensen’s portrayal of the character in the movie received positive reviews. He was nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Actor category, as well as a Golden Globe and a BAFTA.
The director wanted Washington’s wildness to be portrayed on film. The director liked the Deception Pass State Park. The manager of the site chose Rosario Beach as a location because it was attractive. The camera captured Washington’s soul, from rivers and beaches to mountains and deserts.
