The Library of Congress has preserved the film in its National Film Registry. The film, which was at first controversial, has now become a cult classic. Psycho is considered by many to be one of Hitchcock’s best films.
He shot the majority of the filming in a California studio, but he also used Buckeye and Gila Bend as well as downtown Phoenix. Psycho Day in Phoenix is celebrated annually on the 11th of December. The city was the perfect setting for a crime.
