It may be more dangerous to microwave nothing than you think
Have you ever wondered what happens if you use an empty microwave oven? Don’t use an empty microwave, whether you forgot your food or want to test it out. The radio waves are absorbed by the food in the microwave. If the microwave is empty, there will be nothing to absorb these radio waves.
The appliance will absorb them instead. It could malfunction your microwave, but worse could happen. Be careful when using an empty microwave. It could cause a fire. You should always check your microwave before pressing the “start” button, just in case.
When using a microwave for defrosting meat, it could cause the meat to melt unevenly
It’s for a good reason that we are often instructed to defrost our frozen meat the night before. Defrosting meat safely is best done by leaving it out at room temperature or in the fridge for 12 to 24 hours. Some people believe they can defrost meat faster by using the microwave.
Meat should be defrosted slowly and evenly. Microwaves can encourage the growth of bacteria within the meat. Food poisoning or other illnesses could result. You can set a reminder the night before to remove your meat from the freezer if you plan on cooking it.
