Mark did not want to share his theories, but wanted the police examine the object. This was particularly true of those arising from disturbing dreams. Mark thought the details of his nocturnal dreams were too far-fetched, and that they could have questioned his credibility.
The mere physical presence of the investigators would be sufficient to show the urgency and seriousness in the situation. He hoped that their arrival would reveal the mystery and confirm what he was worried about.
