Hitting Metal
Mark was so determined to close the gap that it was nearly as big as he imagined by dawn on day two. A sudden change in circumstances caused Mark’s heart to beat faster as the sun rose. The excitement quickly faded as his shovel began to make a distinct clang instead of the muffled sound.
Could he have accidentally damaged the plumbing underneath the property? The resonating metallic sound puzzled him. It should not have been there, but it was. The mystery deepened.
