The Attic
Lily was attracted to a tiny doorknob that hung from the ceiling. The doorknob was part of a retractable staircase that led up to the attic. Lily deduced that the stairs were used frequently based on their appearance. It is impossible to explain why someone would use their attic in such a way that it would cause the exterior to deteriorate.
The car pulled up
She jumped up and grabbed the handle when she heard an unexpected car coming down the driveway. Her heart was sinking as she struggled to think of a plan. She quickly pulled down the stairs, climbed them up and then pushed them back up because she didn’t have time to pass the rear door.
